Extraction
Dr. Heatrice suggests that kids try “wiggling out” their own baby teeth, but sometimes a dentist may need to help. For example, if a baby tooth has really long or abnormal roots that make it tricky to fall out on its own, the dentist might need to take it out to make room for the new permanent tooth. Also, if a tooth has a lot of decay, it might need to be removed to keep the other teeth and jaw healthy. Infections, issues with braces, or trouble with wisdom teeth can also mean a baby tooth or an adult tooth needs to be taken out.
